Abstract

This Study aims to analyze the political awareness of first-time voters in the 2024 Minahasa Regent and Vice Regent Election in North Kawangkoan District. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation as data collection techniques. The informants consisted of ten first-time voters who exercised their voting rights in the 2024 local election. The analytical framework was based on Gabriel Almond and Sidney Verba's theory of political orientation, which includes cognitive, affective, and evaluative orientations. The findings indicate that first-time voters generally possess a basic understanding of the electoral process, voting rights and obligations, and the implementation of local elections. However, their knowledge of candidates' visions, missions, and political programs remains limited, with most political information obtained through social media and the surrounding environment. Affective orientation is reflected in their enthusiasm and sense of responsibility in participating in the election, although their interest in local political issues has not yet developed optimally. Evaluative orientation demonstrates that most informants made voting decisions based on candidates' programs, track records, and personal considerations, despite still being influenced by family, peers, and social media. Overall, the political awareness of first-time voters in North Kawangkoan District is evolving positively but requires continuous political education and more effective political socialization to strengthen critical thinking and rational political participation among young voters.
