Village development is an important part of efforts to improve community welfare in an equitable manner. However, as of 2025, the composition of independent villages and underdeveloped villages in Indonesia remains relatively balanced, indicating the need to accelerate village self-reliance. One of the factors influencing this acceleration is the leadership of the village head. This study aims to construct a contemporary leadership mindset model of village heads that can drive the acceleration of village self-reliance. The research employs a post-positivist paradigm with a quasi-qualitative approach and a case study method. The research was conducted in Kucur Village, Dau District, Malang Regency, which has successfully transformed from an underdeveloped village into an independent village. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, surveys of village residents, field observations, and documentation studies. The results show that the success of Kucur Village’s transformation is influenced by the contemporary leadership mindset of the village head, which includes a visionary mindset, collaborative mindset, innovative mindset, empowerment mindset, and service-oriented mindset. These five dimensions play a role in increasing community participation, encouraging innovation in village development, and strengthening the management of local potential, thereby accelerating the achievement of village self-reliance.
